Fighting for Transparency

Every school needs transparency in order to prevent corruption and make sure students and teachers voices are heard. Too many parents and students feel that the school system isn’t listening to their concerns, while recent corruption scandals in the Knox County school system shows the dangers of dysfunctional accountability system.

If Elected to School Board, I Will:

  • Start measuring student engagement (whether students like school, feel attached to school, etc.), to help make teaching more effective, and revise curriculum if needed.

  • Give Barbourville students (from 8th grade up) a chance to vote for a student representative to the Barbourville Independent Board of Education.

  • Make sure students have complete access to their own school records

  • Implement participatory budgeting to let Barbourville students, teachers, and parents decide which repairs or renovations to prioritize given limited resources.
